Embracing & Accepting Change: A Meditation on Loss & Death
This guided meditation will invite you on a deeply peaceful journey of surrendering your body to the earth and your spirit to the great mystery from which all things are born and unto which all things must eventually die.
Meditation on death, far from being a morbid practice, enables us to practice dropping deeply into an expansive sense of presence. Death is a universal experience and stepping forward into imagining ourselves meeting this moment has many benefits. It allows us to easily let go of the mind’s clingings, aversions and chatter, as there is no identifications or attachments we may take with us in death. This invokes a peaceful acceptance of all that is. By meditating on death and allowing it to be our advisor we naturally begin to let go of trivial worries and orient towards what is most important whilst learning to appreciate the precious moments of life we are gifted. Since we will all meet death it is wise to cultivate a sense of trust, peace, dignity, and grace that we may eventually take with us when we take our last breaths. Life is full of endings big and small and this mediation allows us to practice an easeful letting go so that we can make space for welcoming new inspiration and life that inevitably follows each ending. As Buddha said “of all the footprints, that of the elephant is supreme. Similarly, of all mindfulness meditation, that on death is supreme.”
